Therapy for College Students in Vermont
Students & Emerging Adults
Therapy for college students in Vermont who are finding the first years harder than they expected. I'm Amber, LCMHC. I see students online anywhere in the state and in person in Richmond, a short drive from Burlington.
The first year is harder than you thought it would be
You got in. You moved. And instead of the fresh start you expected, you're homesick and not sure why, or you're realizing things about your family that you couldn't see while you lived with them. A lot of students come to me in the first or second year needing somewhere to process what home was like before they left, and why the transition is hitting harder than it seems to for their roommates.
This is family-of-origin work, done at the age where it makes the most difference. We slow down, look at what you carried here, and work out what you want to keep.
ADHD and executive functioning
College removes every structure that was holding your days together. If you have ADHD, or you suspect you do, that shows up fast: missed deadlines, all-nighters, a growing pile of things you meant to do. I help students build routines that work for their brains and their relationships, not routines borrowed from someone who doesn't think the way you do. Some of that is practical. Some of it is the shame that's built up around not being able to "just do it."
While an ADHD diagnosis will require further evaluation outside of our work together, we can work together to bring helpful structure back to your life and practice ongoing strategies so you remain in control. If you need an evaluation, I can help you figure out where to get one through my referral network.

What we work on
Anxiety and depression. Adjustment to school. Relationships and roommates. Family of origin. Trauma, including EMDR when it fits. Executive functioning and ADHD. Mostly, though, we work on whatever is in the way this week.
Online across Vermont, in person in Richmond
Most of my student clients meet me by video from their dorm or apartment. That works for students at UVM, Champlain, Saint Michael's, Middlebury, Norwich, and Vermont State. If you'd rather meet with me in-person, I'm at The Village Collective in Richmond one day a week, about twenty minutes from Burlington. You need to be physically in Vermont for our sessions.
Getting started
We begin with a free 15-minute video call.
