Pregnancy Loss Therapist in Vermont
Miscarriage, Stillbirth & Infertility
A pregnancy loss therapist in Vermont for miscarriage, stillbirth, and the long grief of infertility. I'm Amber, LCMHC. I'm trauma-focused and EMDR-trained, and I see clients in Richmond and online across the state.
Grief the people around you may not see
A miscarriage at any point in a pregnancy is a loss that is very hard to cope with. So is a stillbirth, and so is the fourth negative test after a second round of IVF. But the world mostly doesn't treat them that way. There's no service, no casserole, often no name. People say "at least it was early" or "you can try again" and mean well. Sometimes you have to jump back into daily life quickly, and the grief has nowhere to go.
Miscarriage and stillbirth
We make room for the grief first. Then, when you're ready, we look at what else came with it: the medical parts that may have been frightening, the guilt that shows up even when nothing was your fault, the strain on your relationship, the question of whether and when to try again. Some of this is grief work. Some of it is trauma work, and for that I use EMDR, which helps when a specific moment keeps replaying.
Infertility and trying to conceive
Infertility is grief on a loop. Every cycle has a hope and a loss inside it, and the treatment itself can be exhausting and invasive. I work with women who are in the middle of it and need somewhere to put all of that, and with women who are deciding whether to keep going. I don't have an opinion about what you should decide. I have a lot of room for how hard the deciding is.

Pregnancy after loss
A pregnancy after a loss is rarely the happy chapter people expect it to be. It's often the most anxious months of a person's life. If you're pregnant again and can't let yourself believe it, that's a normal response to what you've been through, and it's something we can work with week by week.
How I work
I work from a trauma-focused lens and use EMDR alongside narrative therapy and parts work. In person I'm at The Village Collective in Richmond one day a week. The rest of the time I see clients online anywhere in Vermont. Empty Arms Vermont and Postpartum Support International run peer support groups state and nationwide for pregnancy and infant loss, and I'm glad to be one part of a wider circle of support.
